THE CHALLENGE

To rethink and design richer
interactions between 
digital wallets and customers.

BBVA, one of the most important banks in Spain, wanted to help customers andcompanies build close connections.

We worked in the digital strategic definition of the new BBVA’s Wallet, focused on the relationship between royalty programs and payments, and finance management to the next level with a completely future focus and customer-centred mobile banking experience.

THE APPROACH

The world of payments is undergoing significant disruption. With the emergence of the mobile, more and more players are getting in on the game, from tech companies to retailers, services providers to loyalty programs. In this environment, traditional credit card companies must innovate in order to play a relevant role in the digital ecosystem, or risk becoming irrelevant.



I designed a natural usage flow: You open your wallet, browse through your cards, select one, and use it. I crafted dozens of small interaction details that enriched the app and made it simpler and easier to understand. Everything was framed in a language that was both, intimate and free of technical technicalities.

THE PROCESS

Strategic Design Workshop

After the kick off meeting where the client told us all they needed, we held a number of workshops that helped us gather a deeper understanding as well as set the basis upon which start working. Undoubtedly, one of the key workshops in every project. Thanks to this we were able to better understand the client's goals both professional and personal.

Agile methodology

After defining together with BBVA the MVP, we design 4 sprints for three weeks each.


we worked in a very agile fashion.We think for one or two days the best way to approach the goal and then translate the findings directly to a design, which we would prototype and later invite some potential users to ‘guerrilla test’ it out.

User testing

2 months before launch, after all the design and iteration, we doubled-down on validating our wildest convictions. We held an extended beta and conducted user testing, which highlighted the top risks.

User Experience

I created frameworks and prototypes to share the vision, design principles and content strategy. This helped to evangelise ideas, gain alignment and drive decision making.

Visual Design

I partnered with three Visual designers to uncover insights and translate the wireframes. We designed all screens of the MVP and we worked on user stories.

THE RESULT

EASY, FAST AND SUPPLE

After finishing MVP’s first phase and implementing it successfully in LATAM, we started BBVA Global second phase, a new prototype that should serve as a “new vision” for each country. Our collaboration also generated a series of new service ideas about client and companies satisfaction.
